Long-distance move from Little Rock, AR to New York, NY

Move from AR to NY

This company will make your move the worst possible in every imaginable aspect.

I was paired with them through a brokerage company to move all of my belongings from Arkansas to NYC, and was told that they would be able to deliver everything on a specific date as I had informed them that I would be out of town for three weeks after that - they ended up arriving a full week late and I had to have a friend do my move for me since I wasn't there. Absolutely ZERO apology from the company, and the owner yelled down the phone that if I wanted to argue over the date on the contract I could lawyer up and he would have his lawyer ready.

The day that they were moving my things in, I got a call that there was a "long carry" fee of $500, even though they were parked directly in front of my apartment building and had access to a reserved freight elevator that was in the lobby. By that standard, every move is a "long carry" move. Of course I was left no choice but to pay, as they had my belongings in their truck.

Once I arrived home, I realized that they had lost an entire large box (I had maybe 10 boxes total being moved). I called them, and Jason told me that they would check the warehouse and ask the other moves that had been loaded in the same truck if they had my box. Over the next two weeks I called repeatedly, only to be told that it wasn't in the warehouse and that they were still checking with the other clients on the route. Finally, after AGAIN having to call instead of receiving any update from them, I was told that no other client had the box and I would have to file an insurance claim. Of course, not one single apology from the company for the fact that they lost an entire large box of my things.

The contract they have you initial specifies in the fine print (my bad for not reading closer) that insurance coverage is given on a 60 cent/pound basis. So even though I had multiple items that were very valuable in the box they lost, the most I could receive as an insurance payout would be a pittance. Given the other reviews here, I am not wasting my time to file a claim because I doubt that I would ever receive my check. Absolutely do not use this company for your cross-country or local move - their ownership does not care one ounce about making your move bearable in any respect.

Long-distance move from Texas to Washington

All Damaged Items & Horrible Customer Service.

**DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!**RUDE, FALSE QUOTES, INCONSISTENT PERSONNEL, DAMAGED ALL ITEMS 1st Generation moved our household items from Dallas to Seattle and operated in an unethical and illegal demeanor. Most items were COMPLETELY damaged. When beginning our contract with 1st Generation, we were quoted an estimated amount of our final bill, which increased by over 50%. Charges were incurred that were not originally discussed, like having stairs in our town home, which was clearly communicated to 1st Generation. When the movers arrived early to our home, the insisted on packing boxes themselves to speed up the move-out time, which also caused the rate to increase due to their box sizes that were supplied. Additionally, items were thrown into boxes and also dragged down the stairs by one individual, causing damage to the bottom of multiple items. After they left our home, EVERY conversation that occurred between the company and I was due to us contacting them or having to leave multiple messages with no contact. Our items sat in Dallas for two weeks without any progress and then when the truck left Dallas, it remained in Colorado for another week. When trying to determine the status of our items and schedule, we were either ignored or treated in an unprofessional and rude fashion. I then had to begin managing the account myself with the driver to remain in contact with him to receive updates on our stuff. The poor and nonexistent customer service, and inability to provide a quality service was originally upsetting, excluding the fact that the price greatly increased from what we were quoted. Then, when they called to say that they were expecting to arrive the next day, they wanted to charge another $400 to provide shuttle service from the truck to our home, even though our neighborhood does have access for 18-wheeler trucks. We were able to get that cost waived due to it being completely unethical, but then immediately afterwards received an email with an attached letter that the company wanted me to sign. The letter was asking me to forfeit my right to file any claims against the company if anything was stolen, missing, or damaged beyond repair. That of course made me incredibly nervous about the status of our valuables and furniture. The driver arrived later than estimated and was incredibly rude. He would not accept the money order because it was not from a post office, so we had to go out and get another one before the bank closed. The driver said if we didn't give us the money in 5 minutes, he would leave with our items. After we were able to provide him with the desired form of payment, which was never articulated to me, he then said he would not move the items off the truck until I signed the paper stating that we forfeit the right to sue or file a claim based on the status of our items. I had to then tell him I deleted the email, which I have not, so that he would give us our items and leave our property.Once they began unloading the truck, it only got worse. The majority of our items are ripped, torn, cracked, stripped, crushed or cracked. Everything from the box springs being torn to our pull out sofa being torn to them damaging our current town home (carpet and part of the wall) to a completely broken desk and tv stand to a cracked snowboard to a dresser with the back completely ripped off to our mattress just laying on the truck without anything around it. Anything you can imagine is damaged in some way - bike seat screws broken in half, bike chain protector cracked, dining room table corners crushed, boxes that apparently broken so they just wrapped in tape, boxes completely ripped open, nightstands cracked, bookcase scuffed, and more. They were even trying to leave things outside or against the wall so we would not see the damage. I have photographs of everything so far and I expect to find more damage throughout my unpacking. The company is unprofessional, unethical and borderline illegal, and I want to at least be reimbursed for their services, since we have an incredibly limited amount of salvageable items and they did not provide the service we signed up for - moving our items with care and proper handling. I have filed a complaint with the BBB and I will strive to ensure that no other person is affected by them and left with all of their property destroyed without any care or concern from 1st Generation.**DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE!** I wish I could go back in time because our family has truly been violated and we paid for it to happen. It is a crime and do not do this to yourself!

Official company response

We at 1st Generation Moving are proud of the fact that almost every customer we move has  told us that they are not only happy with their moves but that we did an excellent job.  We  strive for excellence.  If a customer is not happy we do everything in our power to make it  right.

In the case of the Morgan’s move, we have already taken these measures.  However, with the  Morgan’s nothing we offered seemed to appease them.  In fact, the more apologetic we were,  and the more incentives we offered, the more combative they grew.  It seems that apologies  and discounts aren’t enough  only the demise of our company will suffice.
Ms Morgan has referred to us as “rude, unethical, and engaging in illegal” conduct.

We booked the Morgan’s move on December 9.  Ms. Morgan explained to us that this was  her FIRST ever interstate move as well.

Ms Morgan told us that she would like to have her things delivered by December 28.  We  explained that that this would be highly unlikely but that we would do everything in our power  to try to get there as soon as possible, but (contractually) it can take up to 21 business days  transit time to get there.  The delivery ultimately occurred in mid-January.  This is the source  of the "rude, horrible" customer service accusation.

In an attempt to get as much head start on the transit time we picked up the Morgans on the  19th.  We, in fact, in an effort to provide the best service possible, began the process of trying  to find an agent for delivery on the 16th!  We simply could not find an agent.  Further, with  Christmas and New Years approaching it made a quick delivery problematic .  Finally, in a  desperate measure to meet our contractual obligations we contacted 8 other moving  companies in town and, ultimately, found 5 that also were in the same predicament.  With that  as an incentive we finally were able to entice an agent.  We went above and beyond the  normal call of duty to make this happen.

During this process the Morgans called twice daily EVERY day demanding that they be called  every day for updates.  We patiently explained that once we had an agent lined up that they  would immediately be contacted.  NOT ONCE DURING THIS PROCESS WERE THE  MORGANS IGNORED, MADE TO WAIT EVEN MORE THAN AN HOUR FOR A CALL BACK  IN THE RARE INSTANCE WHERE THEY WERE FORCED TO LEAVE A MESSAGE, and  emails were also promptly responded to to.  NEVER were the Morgans treated rudely EVER.
Ms Morgan states that we operated in an “unethical and illegal demeanor (?)”  This seems to  be because of additional charges that were incurred and covered in the contract Ms Morgan  signed.
Ms. Morgan complains that the bill went up.  It was explained that the quote is binding based  on the accuracy of the inventory.  When we arrived for the pickup the Morgans had twice the
inventory that they gave us when they booked the move!  It went from 62 items to 105 items!  At this point, we no longer have a binding quote.
She admits that she did not have all her packing done when we arrived.  We cannot be  expected to sit around waiting for a customer to finish packing once we arrive.  Packing  MUST be done before arrival.
Ms. Morgan complains that she was charged $75 for an additional flight of stairs.  It was  explained that even if the customer has a two story apartment which is accessed on the  second floor (three flights total) we will not charge them for any stairs, which was what she  indicated that she had.  However, when we arrived, we found that we had to enter on the 4th  floor, with two stories inside (SIX total),  which could have resulted in an additional $225 for the extra three flights to the front door, but only charged $75.  Again, this is covered in the contract.
Ms Morgan complained that upon delivery a shuttle was required but didn’t think she should  have to pay.  (Why she felt this way isn’t certain.)  But according to the driver a shuttle was  needed.  Note: We make nothing off charging a customer for a shuttle.  It is either needed or  not needed.  Again, covered in the contract.  But in an effort to appease the Morgans AND  AVOID WHAT WE ARE DEALING WITH NOW, we agreed to a $500 discount - $100 more than the price of the shuttle!
Ms Morgan complains that they were inconvenienced because they did not have the proper  form of payment upon delivery.  This is covered multiple times both orally and in writing  (in the contract).

Lastly, Ms Morgan complains that she had extensive damage.  If that is the case we are truly  sorry and hate to hear that and there is a claims process in place.  However, we  professionally blanket wrap everything we load thoroughly and extensively and find this claim, considering the other distortions, dubious. (A “broken bicycle seat screw?”)

We here at 1st Generation are proud of our company and level of service we offer and are  outraged at Ms Morgan’s characterization of us as “rude, unethical, and illegal.”  And  attacking a customer is the last thing that we want to do but we cannot allow a person to try  and destroy our reputation based on mistruths and misrepresentations. We will not allow our  reputation to be sullied by an unreasonable customer.
We have done everything in our power to fulfill our contractual obligations and have. We have been  courteous and responsive throughout the Morgan’s move.  NOTHING Ms Morgan complains  about has been “unethical or illegal”.  The Morgans have twisted and distorted the facts at  every turn and nearly EVERYTHING they complained about is covered in the contract they  signed.   The Morgans seem determined to make anyone except themselves pay for their mistakes.

Local move within Texas

Local move in Plano.

1st generation moved my 3 bedroom house 2 days ago , they charged reasonable hourly rate, but the movers were just great.
Cesar was very efficient, since they arrived he took over things –directing each mover to what he should do first.
Jackie estimated over the phone 7 hours to complete the move but they finished it in 6 hours .
They wrapped everything with moving blankets and the beds with the plastic covers.
What I liked the most is the Cesar was doing amazing job and the movers were kind and polite.

Do Not Use Them.

1st Generation Moving sent me a moving and packing quote. They did not send an estimator and I asked to do so repeatedly because their price was too good to be true. I made it clear that I didn't want to be haggeling the driver on the day of the packing. The agent made it clear that there would be no problem. Hay Simhon the owner is also associated with this other moving company who has been accused of theft and poor business practice:

http://www.bbb.org/dallas/business-reviews/movers/american-knights-moving-and-storage-in-dallas-tx-90222840

Driver and 3 others showed up. After an hour the driver starts to ask me for more money. I ended up paying an additional $700 on the spot.

I paid for packing but they did not bring enough packing materials. They used my personal household goods including boxes I had purchased costing me $75

I had a brand new iPhone docking station in it's original box. The driver/owner put tape on it and hand carried it to the truck. That was the last I saw of it. The driver claims he personally put it in the truck he sublet to the other company who delivered it. So each company is blaming the other and I am caught in the middle. Cost: $700

They promised to have my belongings delivered on 8/19. I have the emails to prove it. The owner said I was lying because his people would never promise that. I forwarded the emails and never heard back from the guy. I needed to know because I was hiring unpackers in Chicago. Because of his lack of commmunication, I had to schedule and cancel the unpackers several times. They said they would be at my new place on Sunday 8/21 at 2PM but didn't show up until 5:30P and that is when I noticed 1st Generation subcontracted to an outfit Im not familiar with. I had to cancel and rebook the unpackers for Tuesday so I went a total of 4 nights in a hotel room. I purchased an airline ticket to be here when the furniture arrived and it was pointless because they didn't keep their promise of 8/19 delivery. $1,000

Legs to leather sofa were removed by driver/owner in Dallas. The sofa arrived without 2 legs making it a useless piece of furniture.. $2,500

2 missing boxes that were packed and listed on the inventory but not delivered: $1,000

Punitive damages including emotional stress, loss of work, numerous times tracking down the owner to obtain the delivery date, canceling and rescheduling unpackers: $3,000.

Long-distance move from Denton, TX to Boston, MA

Worst of the worsts.

Please spend some time to read this review if you like your furniture and household items. Just one sentence about this company; THE WORST OF THE WORSTS because of these reasons: 1) They are not committed to the due date of delivery. 2) They couldn’t deliver one single item intact. 3) They take zero responsibility for the damages they cause. 4) They are liar and dishonest. Don’t be deceived by their ratings on google. If you check them on Yelp you will receive this message from yelp that many positive reviews have come from the same IP address.
I had them to move my stuff from TX to MA. It took them about 4 weeks to deliver my items while they had promised 3 weeks. Not to say that, they wanted to deliver my items at 3:00 AM because the truck driver wanted to go somewhere else after my delivery. I managed to convince the driver for deliver at 5:30 AM. I couldn’t believe my eyes when they started unloading the truck. Every single item was damaged. Just please see the photos which explain how horrible this company is. At one point, I thought they did that intentionally. They broke my coffee table in half. The sofa’s arm rest is broken. Very deep scratches and chipping of my desk. They broke my bed’s frame which made it completely useless. The TV-stand top glass was shattered. Where am I supposed to find a tinted glass for my TV-stand? I kept calling them and they chose not to take any of my calls. Finally, they told me I have to follow up my claims with their insurance company. I don’t know what’s the point of paying a moving company to move your household items while they fail to do their job properly. I would have donated my furniture instead. After I exhausted all these options I posted a review on google, Yelp, and ratemymoving.com. Only one day later, Dart called and just remembered they need to take some responsibility and that there was a third party who delivered my stuff and it was their fault and 1st Generation won’t work with them anymore just because of this accident, blahblahblah. He said he will follow up with their insurance company to get my claims going instead he wanted me to remove these review. I accepted (I admit that it was mistake and I shouldn’t have done it). I was offered some money much less than what my stuff worth and was scheduled to be delivered within 45 days. It’s been 4 months and I haven’t seen that money yet. They failed again to take care of such a small responsibility something they offered and committed. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY.

Long-distance move from Texas to Connecticut

Associated company is not trust worthy.

I had moved from Dallas to Conniticut, pickup was good but the associated company with them is absolutely ridiculous who's lady manager is Pamela, they charged extra at the time of delivery and their employees are totally unprofessional they used abusive languages,if you will not pay them extra amount they refuse to shifted your delivery to your door, they told if you will not pay extra right away they will left outside the elevator, when you try to call office they will not pick so don't have any option left to pay them extra. At the time of pickup they committed that they will assemble the stuff while delivering but the associated company's employees charged extra and had not done complete work they told us we don't know how to assemble, I told them I have complete video how to assemble but still they refused to do it. Lot of my items got damaged and I am trying to get my claim let's see their response. I think whoever posted this moversis good must be there employees or stuff, as if you most of them posted they had cheated customers. I have their employees videos as well to show them they refuse to do it , how they are behaving , I started making when they took extra money from us still not doing assembling stuff, I had paid extra $100 to employees just to assemble my stuff which was already included in delivery.

Do NOT use this company. There is no communication and they refuse to provide the requested paperwork to their insurance company so my damage claim can be paid. They took over a month to get my things to me at the new address. The delivery driver gave me no signed paperwork and they will now not talk to me. This company is incredibly careless and I don't recommend that anyone use them.

Greedy Unprofessional.

They are greedy and unprofessional people.  I called more than 10 moving companies to compare quotes.  1st Generation Moving gave me a quote almost three times as much as other companies charge me. And that's the only company I remember to tell that I don't have a bed to move.  They even told me they gave me the best discount they can and their quote was based on the exact amount of stuff I have.  How GREEDY.

Long-distance move from Texas to Washington DC

Worst Moving Experience.

Where to even start?  In addition to a damaged buffet table..

#1. First they ignored my dates and stated they were delivering later that day..5 days early - 5 days before I had the keys to the new lease.  If I didn't not agree, it would be another 2-3 weeks before they'd deliver again.

#2.  I marked a huge space in front of the building.  The driver refused to park there because there was a sign that stated "no thru traffic."  He would not listen to reason about "delivery trucks are not thru trucks". He parked around the corner and charged me $75 for the distance..and basically held or belongings hostage until I went to an ATM and go $75..or he'd come back in 2-3 weeks.

#3. Then he additionally wanted another $75 for the flight of stairs..which was already in my contract free.  I called the owner, handed the driver my phone, who yelled at the owner and then threw my phone across the room..  The owner said the stairs were in the contract, but asked me to pay the $75 for the distance and then claim it so he could reimbursement instead of fighting with the driver..and that he had never used this contract driver before.  (The driver later made it very clear he's been working with this manager some time and hates him).

#4. I reluctantly agreed, but when I went to claim it, the owner refused - I even went so far as to use their worthless dispute service and he basically said it never happened, essentially calling me a liar.

#5.  The driver went and picked up an illegal alien in front of Home Depot (note: the other employee stayed and told me what he was doing!!) Then the driver paid the illegal out of the $75 he charged me for distance and had him haul everything up the stairs!

#6.  Though in the contract that they would not be held responsible for damaged floors, the illegal immigrant who didn't actually work for them, set the metal file cainets down in the doorway and pushed them across the room (wood floors), scraping them all up.

#7.  Then the driver had the audacity to get mad at me for not "providing them drinks and A/C".  I informed him he was 5 days early(!), I just got the keys from the landlord 20 min before they arrived which cost a pretty penny, that in that 20 minutes I didn't call to have the water and electricity turned on early/immediately(!), and they had all my dishes in boxes in their truck!  He finally went to the 711 across the street and purchased them some water with some of the remaining money from the $75 cash he required from me.  This was truly the worst moving experience I have ever had..the management was horrible, the driver was horrible, and their dispute services is worthless.  Save your money and sanity - go elsewhere.  .

Tx-la Horrible.

**DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY** horrible experience. Lied on just about everything. Cindy and the owner, Hay, are true con artist. They con you into contracts off verbal promises, then have no desire to resolve the matter. And they do not honor the notes on the contacts made by their employees. HORRIBLE company which is a true reflection of the owner himself. Bad business man. And I asked for the additional insurance they told me no.
